Kibart, Inc. fulfilled the role of Prime Consultant as well as Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing engineers for a major building renovation of this 37,400 SF elementary school located in Harford County, Maryland. The project largely consisted of upgrading the HVAC systems from chiller/boiler to VRF. M/E/P services and design features include:
- Existing conditions assessment and evaluation to determine recommendations, etc. which was utilized for subsequent design.
- Project was phased to provide completion of the common areas over the summer break. Two temporary portable classrooms were used for project phasing during the Fall Semester.
- Removal of air cooled chiller, fuel oil boiler, dual temperature pumps, classroom unit ventilators, and two pipe distribution.
- Removal of fuel oil water heater.
- Five dedicated outside air units with energy recovery to provide the school with ventilation.
- A single zone VAV rooftop unit with energy recovery.
- Six variable refrigerant systems providing cooling and heating.
- Upgrading the fire alarm system. New fire dampers and fire/smoke dampers were added to meet Code.
- Electric water heater with solar thermal heat exchanger.
- A new DDC Building Automation System replacing the existing pneumatic system.
- Upgrading lighting fixtures in various areas of the school.
- Pursued BGE Smart Energy Savers Program Incentives.
