Edwin Abbott, Jr. P.E., CCP

With more than 41 years in the engineering field, Ed Abbott combines his professional experience with his unrelenting passion for putting Kibart at the forefront of major transformations in the field of MEP engineering. The design and construction communities know Ed as methodical, rational and process-driven. These traits give him the ability to solve any type of problem — a design challenge, incorporating a new technology, or expanding Kibart’s business reach.

As president of Kibart, the management of the firm is Ed’s primary role. This role includes business development, strategic planning, finances, organizational structure, and the reinforcement of Kibart’s company culture. He leads by example, serving as a model of professionalism and friendship.

Ed joined Kibart in 1990 as Chief Mechanical Engineer, and in 1992 was promoted to vice president of the firm. In 2001, Ed took the helm as president when he, David Fuller, Farshad Kassiri and Mike Ford purchased the firm from its original owners.

With the updated commissioning requirements of the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code, we’re seeing more project owners focusing primarily on the cost of these services rather than the total value to their triple bottom line. When done right, commissioning is an opportunity to control construction costs, reduce energy costs, protect the long-term operation of the MEP systems and maintain the value of the building.

Ed has worked in the field of mechanical engineering since 1978, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Johns Hopkins University. He is licensed to practice engineering in Maryland, Colorado, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia and Texas. He is also a Certified Commissioning Professional, endorsed by the Building Commissioning Association.
